Alaska Mountain Goat Taxidermy Trophy Class Billy
An Alaska Mountain Goat shoulder mount is shown here. With horn lengths of 9 4/8 inches apiece, this “Billy” boasts excellent horn sizes. The bases are 5 4/8″ and 5 3/8″ in size. With a total score of 29 7/8, SCI is eligible for a Silver Medal Awards class set of horns. Mount has a forward-looking, head-forward posture. Excellent taxidermy job on this mount, with a large specimen available for purchase to put on display in the lodge, cabin, or place of business.
Even while the topic is great and we adore the Mountain Goat posture, there are a few condition flaws that need to be fixed. A line near the ear where a repair has been performed can be seen if you attentively examine the mount’s right side of the face (see attached photographs). Additionally, there is damage to the tips of both ears. Lastly, the coat does not have the vivid white hair that we prefer to see in immaculate specimens of the species.
Although the hair is long and thick, the color is not the best. Despite these criticisms, this species is more difficult to locate and mount with excellent horn size and posture. We gave this item a “Nice” rating and believe that collectors of North American big game species would still find it to be a useful display item.
The total mount dimensions are 26 inches high by 14 inches wide by 19 inches deep (from the wall into the room). The item is suspended by a single fastening.
